I have been a pro-choice activist for most of my life—ever since I learned that politicians and religious extremists actually spend time and dollars imposing their beliefs and controlling behavior on women’s bodies—and I have seen some pretty wild scare tactics employed against a woman’s right to bodily autonomy.

Not far from my house are giant billboards of fetuses pleading, “Don’t kill me!” At the March for Women’s Lives in 2004, a man drove around in a truck featuring some really gory images of mutilated fetuses, saying “Abortion is murder,” over and over again in a megaphone. Then, of course, there is the fact that anti-abortion terrorists—who our government fails to correctly label as terrorists, of course—attack clinics and doctors every year in an effort to stop their life-saving procedures.
